POSITION DESCRIPTION –PRODUCER– ADVERTISED 6 AUGUST 2008

POSITION CONTEXT

The Brisbane Powerhouse is a producer and presenter of international, national and local performing arts in Brisbane and throughout the world.

Brisbane Powerhouse accommodates:

§     a 560 seat flexible end stage theatre
§     a 200 seat apron stage theatre 
§     a 1000 spectator open stage 
§     visual arts exhibition space
§     2 restaurants and bars 
§     rehearsal rooms

Brisbane Powerhouse activities include:

§       presenting international, national and local performing and visual arts
§       producing performing arts and touring those productions nationally and internationally 
§       housing and supporting three resident companies – Topology, the Restaged Histories project and splintergroup

Purpose

To identify and produce arts events at Brisbane Powerhouse.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Program Manager.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES or KEY RESULT AREAS:

1.      Identify and recommend performing arts events for presentation by Brisbane Powerhouse.
2.     Prepare budgets for performing arts contemplated for presentation at Brisbane Powerhouse. 
3.     Plan, produce and manage performing arts events to the highest artistic and technical standards. 
4.     Keep abreast of the latest arts developments locally, nationally and internationally. 
5.     Prepare, control & monitor income and expenditure and acquit individual project budgets to ensure every project runs to budget. 
6.     Liaise with Operations colleagues regarding technical and production requirements for events. 
7.     Identify sources of funds and prepare submissions and grant applications for events at Brisbane Powerhouse. 
8.     Prepare reports and acquittals of grants received. 
9.     Provide marketing colleagues with information and materials relevant to conducting marketing and publicity campaigns. 
10.    Liaise with marketing colleagues on the planning and execution of marketing and publicity campaigns. 
11.     Provide specialised research and knowledge on issues related to the performing arts and develop policy papers as required. 
12.    Comply with and implement applicable legislation, codes and policies including anti-discrimination, EEO and workplace health and safety legislation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Tertiary qualifications in an arts related discipline would be an advantage. A detailed knowledge of at least one branch of performing arts is essential.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

1.      Highly developed oral and written communication skills. 
2.     Ability to develop, manage and co-ordinate productions, workshops and services across a variety of performing arts. 
3.     Ability to prepare, manage and monitor budgets and prepare sensitivity analyses on productions. 
4.     Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. 
5.     Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a cohesive work team. 
6.     Excellent computer skills, including proven proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word, experience in using event booking software would also be of benefit.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1.        Demonstrated ability to identify, produce and manage arts events at a professional level
2.       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with a broad range of people and successfully negotiate issues of a   complex and sensitive nature.
3.       Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets. 
4.       Demonstrated ability to undertake, organise and prioritise multiple and complex projects from conception through to completion. 
5.       Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a cohesive work team. 
6.       Demonstrated knowledge, or the capacity to acquire knowledge of, applicable legislation, codes and policies including anti-discrimination, EEO and workplace health and safety legislation.
