Brisbane Powerhouse and Topology presents
Topology: Spirit Dancing
Sun 9 Nov 08
Be transported by the sheer sonic beauty of Topology.
Topology formed when five musicians got together to make music they weren’t hearing anywhere else, and the artists have maintained their commitment to only play music they love. This is music that is often humorous and energetic, but also ventures into areas of the ecstatic and the contemplative without losing its slight hint of edge and danger.
In Spirit Dancing, Topology will revel in taking the audience inside the sounds. The concert finds Topology exploring the meditative beauty of Gavin Bryar’s ritualistic music in The Old Tower of Löbenicht, a haunting and deeply moving work that Bryars dedicated to the memory of a friend killed in the 1988 Lockerbie air crash.
Topology’s original works in the concert are marked similarly by reflective moods, often combined with an attraction to embodied, rhythmically charged euphoria. Inspired by their work with “father of minimalism”, California pianist-composer Terry Riley, Topology will also perform a collection of Riley’s mesmerising works.
Duration: 75 mins, no interval.
