WHAT IS IT?

Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Powerhouse have launched a new funding initiative, The Bridge designed to support Brisbane-based independent artists and producers.

The Bridge offers $300K over four-years in cash and in-kind support for new productions of shows not previously presented in Brisbane (can be new or pre-existing works). The initiative gives Brisbane creatives the necessary time and support to present shows of a professional standard without compromising on creative resources and Brisbane Powerhouse audiences will get to experience new works of an extraordinary standard.

KEY DATES

The initiative is divided across four financial years. In its first year, 2017/18, The Bridge is dedicated to supporting festival artists in Wonderland Festival and MELT. The subsequent years, 2018-2021, Brisbane Powerhouse is dedicated to supporting projects in the genres of:

  • Independent Musical Theatre
  • Digital and Tech-based Artists
  • Circus

Applications are now open for expressions of interest for projects from 2018 to 2021. It is a rolling acceptance of possible projects with no formal deadlines.

ELIGIBLE SHOWS

Selected shows must align with Brisbane Powerhouse’s programming vision of being a home for living art, ideas and experiences. The shows we present are:

  • Irreverent and non-conventional
  • Contemporary and of today
  • Accessible and ambitious

To be eligible, the shows must be new productions of works not previously presented in Brisbane before (but can be new or pre-existing works) – we’re looking for QLD premieres.

THE DEAL

Artists will receive $50,000 of cash support per financial year, shared across 2-3 shows + up to $25,000 of in-kind support (through discounts and waived charges) provided across a single calendar year. The level of possible support will be based upon the length of season at Brisbane Powerhouse, and hire for the Visy Theatre will be discounted to half the standard rate.
