Brisbane Powerhouse Unveils Spectacular Riverside Venue And Community Gathering Space

19 NOV 2022

The transformation of Brisbane Powerhouse continues with the official opening of a new riverside venue today.

Located on the Performance Lawn overlooking the Brisbane River, the Pleasuredome is a magnificent, handcrafted sailcloth tent concepted by Brisbane Powerhouse CEO/Artistic Director Kate Gould and leading Australian stage and site designer Bruce McKinven (Dark Mofo).

A destination for tourists and locals alike, the 520sqm venue features full-service bars and alfresco lounging zones with flexible configurations to accommodate up to 450 guests. Brisbane City Council Community, Arts and Nighttime Economy Committee Chair and Central Ward Councillor Vicki Howard welcomed the addition of the Pleasuredome to New Farm.

“This is such a fabulous space that provides endless opportunities for Brisbane residents,” Cr Howard said.

“Whether it’s attending an event or simply relaxing in the shade during your weekly visit to the famous Powerhouse Farmers Market, the Pleasuredome should be added to every person’s list of new things to explore in Brisbane.

“New Farm Park is visited by thousands of people every single day and this new addition is part of Brisbane City Council’s commitment to delivering more to see and do for residents and visitors.”

Brisbane Powerhouse CEO/Artistic Director Kate Gould said the “quintessentially Brisbane” Pleasuredome was one of several new experiences planned for the precinct.

“Brisbane is famous for its natural beauty, vibrant community spirit and enviable outdoor lifestyle and the Pleasuredome celebrates all three in equal measure,” Ms Gould said.

“Made from handsewn sailcloth from The Netherlands, the organic-shaped, fluted tent-like structure balances an international feel with an authentic local presence, responding beautifully to its relaxed sub-tropical location under the Moreton Bay Figs beside the Brisbane River.

“Doubling as a community gathering space and a new home for unique events, Bruce McKinven has created a truly breathtaking new venue that is sure to become an iconic Brisbane experience.”

The Pleasuredome will be free to the public every Saturday morning as a new offering at the popular Powerhouse Farmers Markets and will host both Brisbane Powerhouse special events and private functions throughout the year.

During Brisbane Powerhouse’s major festivals, the Pleasuredome will transform into full theatre mode to stage music, comedy, circus, theatre, dance and cabaret.
