  • Excerpts from the 2011 production of JUTE Theatre Company's Rosa by Roz Pappalardo.

Presented by Queensland Cabaret Festival

Trace one family’s history from Sicily to Far North Queensland, in this new Australian love story from women in docs’ Roz Pappalardo.

Told through original song and storytelling, Rosa is a joyous tale of the family ties that traverse through maternal ancestry from grandmother to granddaughter.

Best known for her work with Queensland folk songwriting outfit women in docs, Roz steps out of her musical comfort zone to deliver a personal story.

Received with standing ovations and repeat performances throughout regional Queensland, Rosa now makes its way to Queensland Cabaret Festival.

It's a moving piece of theatre, about drawing inspiration from the journeys of our ancestors, both physically and emotionally, and Pappalardo squeezed every last drop out of the audience, receiving a standing ovation at the play's end on opening night.

Denise Carter timeOut Cairns Post

Filled with Italian exuberance, tinged with sadness and regret, and uplifting at the same time, this is a lovely, lovely piece of musical theatre. […] To say that Roz Pappalardo's accomplishment as playwright, actor and singer is a tour de force is an understatement. The audience was blown away as was I, by the audacity of the enterprise and the brilliant way it was carried off.
