Norman Doidge: The Brain’s Way of Healing in conversation with Paul Barclay

Presented by Brisbane Powerhouse in partnership with Sydney Writers' Festival

An exclusive one-off evening with Norman Doidge, author of the New York Times bestseller The Brain That Changes Itself. Norman will present new exciting, cutting-edge science with practical real-world applications, illustrating how anyone can apply the principles of neuroplasticity to improve their brain’s performance.

In The Brain That Changes Itself, Norman Doidge described the most important development in our understanding of the brain in four hundred years: the discovery that the brain can change its own structure and function in response to mental experience — what we call neuroplasticity.

Now in his new book, The Brain’s Way of Healing Norman Doidge extends the reach of neuroplastic treatments, to provide new hope for people who suffer from many kinds of chronic pain, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, attention deficit disorder, autism, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, learning disorders, sensory processing disorders, balance problems and provides information on how to reduce the risk of dementia by 60%.

Doidge’s book is a remarkable and hopeful portrait of the endless adaptability of the human brain.

Brilliant…Doidge has identified a tidal shift in basic science and a potential one in medicine. The implications are monumental.
