Australian Poetry Slam 16

Brisbane Heat 1

Presented by Brisbane Powerhouse, Queensland Poetry Festival and Word Travels with support from State Library of Queensland and ATSICHS

Are you Queensland’s next slam champion? The search is again on for brave new voices to speak their mind at the first Brisbane heat of the Australian Poetry Slam ‘16

Contestants have two minutes to own the stage, rock the mic and win over the crowd with their original spoken word poetry. Featuring spoken word artist Adam Hadley as your MC for the night, the audience will also be treated to a special feature performance. The afternoon’s entertainment will also include MKO Sun the slammin’ live-meets-electronic groove unit led by front-woman and primary songwriter, Hannah Makk, who will also present a special solo set. Judges from the audience rate each performance and two worthy wordsmiths will carry on to battle it out at the Queensland State Final on Sun 28 August at the Queensland Poetry Festival.

For competitors, heat sign-up opens 30 minutes before the event start time. Only the first 20 competitors to sign up may compete.

Now in it’s 20th year, Queensland Poetry Festival is Australia’s premier poetry and spoken word event. This year they are partnering with Word Travels to present the Australian Poetry Slam, celebrating its 10th year which sees over 40 heats across Australia resulting in a national final at the Sydney Opera House.

Join us to compete to be Queensland’s poetry slam champ!
