Promise & Promiscuity

A New Musical by Jane Austen and Penny Ashton

Presented by Penash Productions in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse

With four years of global success from Edinburgh to Edmonton, comes a charmingly accomplished New Zealander – Penny Ashton, in all her theatrical excitement for a Queensland debut.

Follow the fortunes of Miss Elspeth as she battles literary snobbery, cousin Horatio’s digestions and her mother’s nerves, armed with a blushing countenance, excellent ukulele skills and being quite bright – you know… for a girl.

One woman tackles all of Austen’s characters with song, dance and appalling cross stitching

Weekly Best Theatre Award (Adelaide Fringe). Best Performance, Comedy, (Auckland Fringe).

‘A delight’ ***** (CBC, Canada)

‘Sparkling’ **** (The Scotsman)

‘Razor sharp’ ***** (Three Weeks)

New Zealander Penny Ashton is a delight to behold in this one-woman pastiche of Jane Austen and modern culture.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

A sparkling performer whose energy bounces off the stage.

The Scotsman

I left with a grin on my face, already planning who I would take next to see it. It’s Pride and Prejudice gone wild in the best way.
