Presented by Wax Lyrical Productions in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse

Award-winning company, Wax Lyrical Productions, presents the world premiere of Nineteen, a dark comedy about four young men, Noah, George, Adam and Josh, living in a share house. From the outside they seem like fun, lovable larrikins but underneath the bravado and binge drinking lurks something more sinister.

From beers and brotherhood to loss and loneliness, this endearing story uncovers the hidden side of finding yourself in a world filled with complexity and confusion. Crafted from interviews with over ninety young people, the four mates at the heart of Nineteen reflect the hopes and fears of the next generation. Amongst the laughs and unmistakable Australian sense of humour, writer/director Shane Pike unmasks the complexity and fear our brothers and mates are living with which, if left uncovered, can result in the greatest of tragedy.

This show will leave a lasting impression.

Following the 7.30pm performance on Fri 10 November, Caroline Heim (Lecturer in Performance Studies in Creative Industries at QUT) will facilitate a post show discussion with the cast and director, Shane Pike.

Wax Lyrical Productions is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

...the highest accolades must go to Pike: his script is hilarious and poetic in turn.

Imogen Riethmuller Lime Light Magazine

This is a fast-paced engrossing and highly relevant tale, in which humour, revulsion, anger and empathy are dealt in equal measure. Shane Pike never loses momentum.
