Awesome Ocean Party

Presented by Giema Contini and Matt Seery in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse

Awesome Ocean Party is a magic-realism-cabaret cross birthday party hosted by a woman who believes she is half octopus.

She invites you, her party guests, into the depths of her three hearts. Through song, storytelling and ocean-themed everything she weaves together a tale of love, loss, longing and legends of amphibious family histories.

An exploration into our need for human connection, it asks the question: how can we come together beyond our differences and be courageous, vulnerable and human together in the face of pain, adversity and fear?

Awesome Ocean Party was nominated for Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe 2016 and features original music by Nathan Stoneham (Underground and Dokboki Box), and created and performed by acclaimed theatre maker and actor Giema Contini (The Lost Lending Library and The Arrival).

This is a fun, quirky and poignant adventure that will blow your expectations out of the water.

Reviews

Contini is an exceptional performer, just magic to watch … Contini’s imaginative approach to storytelling, and her energy and originality is what live theatre is all about

XS Entertainment

Contini is utterly engaging thanks to her original performance and spot-on timing, creating humour and suspense alike in the most minor of moments.

Blue Curtains Brisbane

Quaint, quirky and awash with gentle charm… Contini has great physicality (and) a great voice… There is a whimsical aspect to Awesome Ocean Party … it is uplifting and entertaining while encouraging you to remain true to yourself and your convictions and believe that everything will turn out the way it should.
