ABOUT THE SHOW

Since forming in Montreal in 2011, TOPS have become one of the most influential underground bands of the past decade, creating a niche for sophisticated pop in the world of indie music.

Their straight-forward, stripped-down and honest style allows their pop songcraft tendencies to shine out in the open. With hearts firmly on sleeves, they explore the emotional intricacy of personal relationships, asking questions about power and desire. Riley Fleck’s measured drumming, David Carriere’s trademark guitar licks and Marta Cikojevic’s lush keyboards mesh in tandem. All together supporting the unmistakable wistful voice of Jane Penny woven through.

The result of this perfect collaboration is a collection of three self-produced records and a handful of singles that cover a range of moods and a complex emotional realm set within a unique groove and musicality. Soft-rock infused pop hits balance signature moody ballads to create a catalogue of work to suit any frame of mind.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Part of the fruitful Montreal indie scene, this quartet delivers complex emotional themes through straightforward, breezy sophisti-pop tunes.

Montreal pop band TOPS wrap messy emotions in smooth delivery, softening lyrical themes of alienation, aimlessness, complex relationships, and interpersonal power dynamics with breezy sophisti-pop melodies. The band grew artistically over a series of self-produced albums, with work like 2014’s Picture You Staring meeting with critical praise for its blend of outsider perspectives and classic songcraft. After a series of releases for Arbutus Records, they issued their fourth studio album, 2020’s I Feel Alive, on their own Musique TOPS label.
