Esperanto is about bringing the world together one song, note, voice and drumbeat at a time.

In this world of ours, full of conflict and difference, there is an intriguing idea that resurfaces again and again. If only we could all find a commonality, the entire world and its different cultures, religions and ideologies could be brought together.

In 1887, Ludwig Zamenhof came up with what he thought was the solution; an international language – Esperanto – for everyone to speak. One language. One world. But his beautiful idea never came to pass. If only he’d looked to the piano, the violin or to song for inspiration, he would have discovered an international language already existed, one that crosses cultural and emotional boundaries effortlessly. That language is music.

Queensland Music Festival Artistic Director James Morrison has curated a program that embodies the spirit of Esperanto, filling every crevice of Brisbane Powerhouse with music from a variety of cultures. Experience an array of genres including Australian Indigenous, Brazilian, Indonesian, Maori, gypsy, R&B, flamenco, pop, bluegrass, jazz and more.

Esperanto is a truly immersive cultural experience across multiple venues, genres and cultures. Come along and learn the one and only truly international language.

Esperanto is part of Queensland Music Festival.
