The Bridge is a Brisbane Powerhouse and Brisbane City Council $300,000 four-year funding initiative designed to support local performers and producers to grow the presenting capacity of Brisbane’s performing arts sector.
This initiative is divided across four financial years, with selected shows aligning to Brisbane Powerhouse’s programming vision of being a home for living art, ideas and experiences. The Bridge will support projects across the genres of independent musical theatre, digital and tech-based artists, and circus. Created in response to Brisbane City Council’s Creative Sector Survey, The Bridge will give Brisbane creatives the necessary time and support to present shows of a professional standard.
The Casus Circus and Cluster Arts work, Chasing Smoke was the first recipient of The Bridge. This evocative and triumphant performance by Australia’s only Indigenous contemporary circus ensemble can be seen at Brisbane Powerhouse in October-November 2018.
We’re also excited to announce the new musical work by Bradley McCaw, Becoming Bill has been awarded the second round of The Bridge funding. Look out for this touching and very funny show at Brisbane Powerhouse in April-May 2019.
Applications are now open for expressions of interest for projects from 2018-2021. For more information contact: The Bridge producer Veronica Neave on 07 3358 8608 or [email protected]
