Artistic Director

Prior to his role as artistic director of Brisbane Powerhouse, Kris has served as founder and executive director of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, artistic director of The Festival of Voices and founder and festival director for The Sydney Fringe.Kris has also worked as the founder and executive director of New Musicals Australia, and through his production company Red Sand Media Partners, he produced the TONY nominated Broadway musical [title of show] and the feature film Red Hook. As a freelance director, Kris was Resident Director of the musical Wicked in Australia for the Gordon/Frost Organization, and has worked with organizations such as Sydney Festival, Opera Australia, Melbourne Theatre Company and Sydney Theatre Company.

Kris’ work has been recognised with the $100,000 Jujamcyn Theaters Prize, 2010 and 2011 Australian Business and Arts Foundation Awards, 2012 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, the Sir Keith Murdoch Prize for Leadership and Innovation and a Churchill Fellowship.

Musicals he produced for the New York Musical Theatre Festival have won Obies, Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize.
He is a graduate of WAAPA, and an alumnus of the Lincoln Center Theater’s Directors Lab and the Commercial Theater Institute (NYC).
