LiVE PERFORMANCE - 18 Feb

The theme for this year’s creative residency, Hypnotica, will explore an eclectic range of improvisational processes, blending traditional instruments with digital sounds and live performance movement.

The residency, based at the iconic Brisbane Powerhouse draws inspiration from the sounds and rhythms of traditional Sundanese music of West Java, Indonesia. Featuring traditional Indonesian musician Efiq Zulfiqar, experimental percussionist Yvette Agapow, circus artist/physical performer Mayu Muto, violinist Flora Wong, guitarist/composer Dr Anthony Garcia the creative residency program will invite young and emerging artists to apply for a new emerging artist fellowship designed to support the development of skills in improvisation, intercultural collaboration and live performance.

The general public can catch a rare glimpse of the creative process via an open rehearsal held on the Turbine Platform, on Thursday 17 February 2022 from 1pm-2pm. Watch artists rehearse live in preparation for the premiere of Hypnotica. An intimate Q & A session will offer the audience the chance to interact with the artists and discuss the creative process in a relaxed conversational manner.

Then experience the premier performance of Hypnotica, a synthesis of ancient and contemporary improvised sound and movement, on Friday 18 February 2022 at 5.30pm.
