Presented by Festival of Tibet in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse

Part of

Festival of Tibet

Two kindred spirits, drawn together across generations by their ancestral journeys from Asia to Australia — Tibetan Grammy-nominated artist Tenzin Choegyal and Queensland Music Awards winning artist-activist Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra weave together an otherworldly tapestry of intricately crafted sounds.

Experience an esoteric, cinematic and wholly magical experience, brought to vivid life by Matt’s 20-piece experimental orchestra comprised of BIPOC, First Nations, non-binary and trans artists, alchemised with Tenzin’s soul-baring voice that has become a lightning rod in the movement to free Tibet.

Tenzin’s music spans eons and across cultures, drawing on lived experiences of Tibetan exile and cultural displacement. His deep connection to Tibetan music and Buddhist chants results in profound and poignant music. Matt, draws on his Taiwanese roots, to create otherworldly compositions that celebrate difference, inclusivity and liminal spaces between cultures, blending orchestral instruments with rethought objects.

All funds raised will be donated to the Tibetan Children’s Village, India to support the education of Tibetan refugee children.
