There’s more to being queer than coming out and getting married.

Queerstories returns to Brisbane Comedy Festival once more with a stellar line up including Steven Oliver, Christian Hull, Tamara Natt and Thomas Parer plus special guests! Join us for unexpected tales, stories of pride, prejudice, resilience and resistance, delivered with warmth and humour by some of Australia’s best LGBTIQ+ comedians as well as incredible local storytellers.

Vulnerable and powerful, hilarious and heartbreaking, Queerstories celebrates the culture and creativity of the LGBTIQ+ community, one true story at a time.

All Queerstories events are Auslan interpreted.

Steven Oliver is a sexy middle-aged “Faboriginal” and celebrated comedian and writer. Steven is a descendant of the Kuku-Yalanji, Waanyi, Gangalidda, Woppaburra, Bundjalung and Biripi peoples. He has worked with numerous theatre companies, festivals and arts organisations across Australia but became notorious with ABC’s Logie/AACTA nominated sketch comedy show Black Comedy as a writer/actor/associate producer. His poetry is published in both national and international poetry journals and his plays Proppa Solid (Jute Theatre) and From Darkness (La Boite Theatre) both received audience and critical acclaim. He has sold-out performances of his one-man cabaret show Bigger & Blacker, premiering at the 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, then playing La Boite Theatre Brisbane and Sydney Opera House.

Christian Hull is a comedian and creator who has accumulated over 600 million views on his plethora of hilarious videos and gained a loyal following of over 2 million on social media. Christian’s podcast Complete Drivel drives over 9,000 listeners tuning into each episode to hear his outlandish stories and general chit-chat and currently sits within the top 100 podcasts in Australia.

Thomas Parer is a creative producer, DJ (under the alias ‘Sweaty Baby’), ex-lawyer and bon vivant living in Meanjin (Brisbane). He’s best known for being the creator and producer of local queer dance party, Shandy, which was started to create a space for queers in Meanjin to nourish themselves and find joy. Thomas is passionate about creating safer spaces for people to connect and believes in the community building potential of parties, and that the dancefloor can serve as a means to imagine a better world and achieve collective liberation.

Tamara Natt a poet, essayist and playwright living with her wife and the local bird gangs on the semi-rural Australian coastline. She likes to watch unsolved murders to relax and takes a psychopathy test every year just to check.  She doesn’t talk to a single one of her ex-girlfriend’s, refuses to believe that Vanessa Amorosi isn’t gay and spends her time writing queer poetry mostly about that.
