There’s more to being queer than coming out and getting married.

Queerstories returns to Brisbane Powerhouse as part of Writers+Ideas for an evening of unexpected and heart-warming tales from the margins. Hear stories of pride, prejudice, resilience and resistance, delivered with warmth and humour by incredible local storytellers.

Vulnerable and powerful, hilarious and heartbreaking, Queerstories celebrates the culture and creativity of the LGBTIQ+ community, one true story at a time.

A national storytelling project directed by Maeve Marsden, Queerstories has sold-out at festivals and independent venues around the country, with a book and an award-winning podcast boasting nearly 250 stories.

MORE INFO

Queerstories events may include content that could be distressing for some people. The producer is unable to provide specific content warnings in advance of tickets going on sale, as stories are only submitted one week prior to the event.

Maeve Marsden is a writer, performer, producer and director who works across main stage and independent venues and festivals. She curates national LGBTQI+ storytelling project, Queerstories, tours with critically acclaimed cabaret productions, and was a 2020 member of Belvoir Theatre’s Phillip Parsons Emerging Playwrights Lab. A well respected cultural commentator, her writing has been published widely and she is regularly invited to contribute as a curator or host at celebrated talks and ideas festivals. She likes gin, dancing, cheese, and TV melodramas with good ethics and terrible dialogue.

In a market where queer voices are often sanitised, Queerstories is political and pivotal...Queerstories is an invitation for the world to listen to the queer community at its rawest and, above all, it's a safe space for queer readers to come home to.
