ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
BULKAWAY MURUKU: YARN TOGETHER! BY CREATIVE BAMA CONNECTIONS
Bulkaway Muruku (Yarn Together) is a grounding and connected NAIDOC Week showcase of story, song and interactive experiences. Presented by Cre8tive Nations and Brisbane City Council, in support with Creative Bama Connections and Brisbane Powerhouse, this immersive yarning experience (featuring the Kuku Yalanji story Kuyu Kuyu Wanjabu) invites audiences to step into the story—moving, responding, and working together to help return a lost fish safely back to family.
This full-circle yarn transports audiences to the Great Barrier Reef on Kubirri (Mossman) Country, where rainforest meets reef, and where connection to place, story, and kinship comes alive through shared experience.
PRE AND POST YARNING ACTIVITIES: WOVEN WORKSHOP – MILI (JELLYFISH), COMMUNAL WOVEN SPHERE AND CLAM BRACELETS
Extend your journey with hands-on creative activities for all ages. Create your own Mili (jellyfish) pendant to wear or take home, and contribute to the making of large illuminated Yalanji woven spheres—collective artworks that will glow and light up the night sky.
VIRTUAL BINKINBA
“Look through” Brisbane Powerhouse at a pre-colonial landscape illustrated by Bilbie XR Labs. Presented by Cre8tive Nations and Brisbane City Council, and supported by QUT and Brisbane Powerhouse, this exclusive experience highlights the unique cultural heritage spanning along the Brisbane River, featuring the diverse flora and fauna, First Nations people paddling canoes, and significant cultural sites such as traditional camping areas near Newstead House in the morning and Victoria Park in the evening. Join us for Virtual Binkinba on Sunday 5th July at Brisbane Powerhouse.
