From her arrival in Queensland, where she expected a multicultural paradise but found cows instead, to her awkward friendship with classmate Rachel, Anisa shares her journey with sharp wit. She also reflects on meeting her boyfriend for the first time and how her relationship with her mother has been shaped by their life in a new country.
Through funny anecdotes about cultural misunderstandings, bathroom mishaps, and the struggle for acceptance, Anisa highlights the awkwardness of trying to connect in a new environment. Ultimately, this show celebrates individuality, love, and the power of laughter in overcoming life’s challenges, inviting audiences to embrace their unique stories and relationships.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ugandan Australian comic and poet Anisa Nandaula’s unique point of view and experiences fuel the fresh new perspective she’s bringing to the local comedy scene and beyond.
Born in Uganda in 2001, Anisa moved to Australia when she was eight and grew up in Rockhampton.
Cutting her teeth through spoken word, Anisa won the 2016 Queensland Poetry Slam and was runner up in the Australia Poetry Slam Championships, then took what she learned to break into comedy in 2020.
Mining everything from racism to relationships, religion to class has seen her amass more than 50 million views of her work across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube and more than 200,000 social media followers.
Anisa mixes the personal with the political to connect with audiences, veering from relatable dating and finance stories to observations about navigating Australian society while black and back again.
She has performed on Channel Ten, SBS, ABC and at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Anisa also supported Chelsea Handler during her Australian tour, further solidifying her presence in the comedy scene. Most recently, she appeared on Thank God You’re Here.
In 2025, Anisa will be touring her debut stand-up hour throughout Australia.
