Brisbane Portrait Prize
ABOUT THE SHOW
The Brisbane Portrait Prize story continues beyond the Finalists’ Exhibition through the Salon des Refusés.
Inspired by the historic 1863 Paris exhibition that challenged artistic conventions, the Brisbane Portrait Prize Salon des Refusés celebrates exceptional works that extend the conversation around contemporary portraiture.
Presented at Brisbane Powerhouse on the iconic Turbine Platform, the exhibition invites audiences to discover a curated selection of portraits drawn from this year’s Brisbane Portrait Prize entries. Against the striking industrial backdrop of the Brisbane Powerhouse, these bold and thought-provoking works are given their own moment in the spotlight.
More than an extension of the Finalists’ Exhibition, the Salon des Refusés creates space for different voices, perspectives and approaches to portraiture. It showcases the depth and diversity of artistic practice across the Brisbane Portrait Prize, allowing more artists, sitters and stories to become part of the conversation.
