ABOUT THE SHOW

Following a sold-out debut season, Flower. Puppy. Show. arrives at Brisbane Powerhouse in an expanded, immersive new iteration.

Created by Rachel Burke and Patience Hodgson (Fancy Free Collective), this vibrant performance blends handmade fashion, live music, and participatory craft into a richly sensory experience. Inspired by the nostalgia of vintage swap cards, kitsch ornaments, and the beloved puppies that shape our emotional worlds, the work unfolds as a tender yet playful meditation on memory, adornment, and connection.

Performed live by Rachel Burke alongside Patience Hodgson, Joel Woods and Tom Fletcher, the show invites audiences into a surreal landscape of colour, texture, and sound – where the line between performer and audience begins to blur.

Beyond the stage, a post-show craft workshop extends the experience, inviting audiences to take part in a collective act of joyful making and become collaborators in this exuberant, handmade world.

Brisbane Powerhouse acknowledges the support of Cass and Ian George for making the Rachel Burke Artist Residency possible.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fancy Free Collective is an artist led collaboration grounded in friendship, play, and a shared commitment to creating work that is both heartfelt and joyfully unrestrained. Founded by long time collaborators Rachel Burke and Patience Hodgson, the collective brings together performance, music, fashion, and participatory craft to create immersive, sensory rich experiences. At its core is a DIY ethos, celebrating the handmade, the nostalgic, and the emotionally resonant, while inviting audiences into worlds that feel as tender as they are exuberant.

Working across stage, gallery, and community contexts, Fancy Free Collective blurs the boundaries between disciplines and between artist and audience. Their projects often extend beyond the performance itself, incorporating workshops and interactive elements that transform spectators into participants. This approach reflects a belief in creativity as a shared, connective act, capable of holding memory, grief, joy, and play all at once.

Patience Hodgson is widely recognised as the dynamic front woman of The Grates, whose electrifying stage presence and distinctive voice have made her a defining figure in Australian music.

Rachel Burke is an artist, designer and author, known for her maximalist aesthetic and materially rich practice. Working across fashion, installation, and performance, her work transforms everyday materials into extraordinary, emotionally charged pieces.

Fancy Free Collective represents the culmination of more than a decade of friendship and artistic collaboration, a shared creative language built through years of making, performing, and dreaming together.
