ABOUT THE SHOW

Two of New York’s most notorious performers, come together to join forces on this double bill, marking a triumphant return to Australia for Lydia Lunch and a debut for Joseph Keckler. In back-to-back sets, queen of the 70s no wave scene, Lydia Lunch’s legendary, spellbinding prose and Keckler’s haunting and tricksterish songs promise an intimate evening of musical and linguistic intrigue.

Post-punk anti-hero, founding member of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, muse of The Cinema of Transgression, celebrated American writer and poet, Lydia Lunch has released too many musical projects to tally. A collaborator with the likes of Nick Cave, Henry Rollins, Rowland S. Howard, Sonic Youth, Einstürzende Neubauten among others.

Joseph Keckler is a singular artist known for his stirring voice, vivid prose, and performances that “dance between comedy, commentary and communion.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST

LYDIA LUNCH grew up in one of America’s numerous ‘Superfund’ environments; land contaminated by toxic waste. At the age of 16, a young Lydia replaced one dystopia with another, running away to New York with the hopes of performing spoken word. Here, she could visit the clubs she’d read about in rock magazines. Surrounded by musicians, Lydia began to meld her poetry with a guitar, and her surname was earned from cooking feasts to feed starving musicians, including Sonic Youth, Suicide and the Butthole Surfers. Proving that you can be provocative as well as generous; fierce as well as kind.

JOSEPH KECKLER is a singer, writer, songwriter and multifaceted creator known for his dynamic live performances, haunting songs, and humorous stories that transform episodes of daily life into affecting and absurd underworld voyages. Hailed by The New York Times as a “major vocal talent with a trickster’s dark humor and a range that shatters the conventional boundaries,” he has performed everywhere from punk dives to the popular NPR Tiny Desk Concert series, and venerable institutions such as Lincoln Center, Center Pompidou and Yale.

Lydia Lunch + Joseph Keckler are supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

"Though contemporary critics were aghast, Lunch is now considered a seminal artist within underground history." — UNDERGROUND UK
