ABOUT THE SHOW

After a massive run at the 2025 Brisbane Comedy Festival, Murder Village: An Improvised Whodunnit is returning for a super-sized season of cunningly improvised whodunnits this August.

Immerse yourself in the cosy world of a 1950s Agatha Christie novel as Australia’s funniest improvisers craft eccentric characters and perplexing mysteries from your suggestions. Any of the village’s suspicious denizens could be dispatched at any moment – and any of them could be the murderer. It’s your secret ballot votes that determine who lives, who dies, and who will be unmasked as the culprit.

This special return season promises bigger, bolder and funnier mysteries, featuring more suspects, more clues and more red herrings. See if you can solve the crime first… after all, no two chapters of this critically acclaimed show are the same.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Murder Village: An Improvised Whodunnit is a comedic off-the-cuff mystery created by some of the country’s most experienced improvisers. In essence, it’s Agatha Christie – improvised!

The hilarious format is a chance for lovers of crime fiction to immerse themselves in a world of English villages, red herrings and suspicious characters. Audiences will get the chance to explore an Agatha Christie novel they’ve never read, populated by vicars, retired generals, amateur dramatic society members and whipsmart amateur sleuths with a knack for solving murders.

Murder Village: An Improvised Whodunnit was developed and directed by David Massingham for a 2016 debut season in Brisbane with ImproMafia (now Improv Queensland). Since relocating to Victoria in 2018, Murder Village has performed to sold out crowds and critical acclaim in solo seasons and festivals such as Melbourne Fringe Festival (awarded Judge’s Picks in 2023 for Best Comedy), Sydney Fringe Festival, (awarded a Remount Award in 2022), Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Perth Fringe World, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Noosa Alive! and Brisbane Comedy Festival.

As of 2025, the show has enjoyed over 200 shows and is just getting started…
