ABOUT THE SHOW

Experience two new works in one evening of emotion and sound. UK-based Australian-born musician and ethereal soundscaper Penelope Trappes makes inky dream pop that’s as heavy and welcoming as a weighted blanket. Touring the first release of her hand-pressed record label: Heavenly Spheres, a delicate study of solitude.

The Wild is a piano trio with no boundaries. Featuring Erik Griswold (Clocked Out), Ritchie Daniell and Sam Pankhurst (Yirinda), The Wild use prepared piano, extended drum kit, and double bass to explore strange and beautiful intersections of musical style and ideas. They search for striking and unusual combinations of sounds.

This is a ‘Pay What You Wish’ performance.

Supported by Live Music Australia – an Australian Government initiative.

Part of ΩHM 2024.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Brighton-based artist Penelope Trappes is best known for her experimental vocals, creating intimate and sacred soundscapes that focus on minimalism, spaciousness and shadows. Nite Hive is Penelope Trappes’ new imprint, designed as a label run by – and for – women and gender nonconforming artists to freely explore experimental music.

As well as taking the audience on a nostalgic journey, The Wild’s Pornography traces a social path from alternative rock to New Music that has provided contemporary classical music with some of its most active and innovative players. It shows that experimentation with sound sources and musical structures is a common passion from alternative rock to art music, from the suburbs to the city.

Penelope Trappes + The Wilds are supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
