In Australianarama, artist, illustrator and famed fashionista Stavroula Adameitis (aka Frida Las Vegas) immortalises our icons of cringe, from the Big Pineapple to Stefan’s Needle, from Rainbow Paddle Pops to loud knitwear.
Bright, bold and bloody grouse, Australianarama is a nostalgic but nuanced appraisal of our garish national treasures, packed with interviews, images and iconic Aussie creatives. It’s going straight to the pool room!

Stavroula Adameitis aka Frida Las Vegas is an Australian artist, designer and cultural futurist obsessed with all things kitsch. Her work sits gleefully at the intersection of popular culture, nostalgia, maximalism and futures-thinking.
Phoebe Paradise is visual artist and musician proudly based in Meanjin/Brisbane who’s known for her illustrations, public art installations and commercial practice. Phoebe’s contemporary artistic practice delves into the everyday poetics of her hometown’s diverse identities, employing aesthetics that blend gothic sublimity with Sunshine State poptimism. Recently, she has focused on exploring fantastical depictions of Brisbane’s iconic suburban architecture as a means of recounting its many oral histories, including her own. Often camp and dripping with nostalgia, Phoebe’s body of work is hyper-niche yet elicits a universal sense of belonging that has captured the imagination of her broad audience. Since early 2024, Phoebe has operated as the Director of Merivale Studios, an artist studio and gallery in the heart of South Brisbane’s Fish Lane Arts Precinct.
