ABOUT THE SHOW

The Necks are one of the great cult bands of the world. Chris Abrahams (piano) Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms.

Featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel in the most mesmerising fashion, sometimes underpinned by an insistent deep groove, the twenty two albums by The Necks stand up to re-listening time and time again.

The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks is possibly unique in the world today.

Formed in Sydney in 1987, they have operated with the same line-up for an extraordinary thirty five years straight. The Necks have been a regular feature on the European and US concert scenes for decades, and are written up in all the major publications of the music world. They could be seen as one of Australia’s most significant and acclaimed musical exports.

The Necks have collaborated with Brian Eno, Underworld, Swans, and Back to Back Theatre, as well as composing the score to legendary Australian feature film The Boys. They have received multiple awards, culminating with the 2019 Richard Gill Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music.
