Step into the vibrant world of Mexican music with renowned artist Victor Valdes for an unforgettable evening of melody and storytelling. Valdes’ extraordinary skills as a singer, harpist and dancer have earned him a celebrated place among Australia’s world music artists.

Prepare to be swept up by the rhythms of Mariachi, Boleros, Banda, Son Jarocho and Mexican cumbia as Valdes guides you on a musical journey through Mexico’s rich soundscapes. Accompanied by his Big Mariachi Band, this performance features a fusion of trumpets, violins and heartfelt melodies that capture the deep emotions embedded in Mexico’s musical heritage.

Experience not only Valdes’ powerful voice but also breathtaking visuals that reflect the essence of Mexico’s landmarks, folklore and culture. The performance is further elevated by a dazzling display of traditional Mexican folk dancing, immersing you in the vibrant musical landscape of Mexico.

Special guests for this performance include, the Argentinian/Australian baritone, José Carbo who previously performed with Opera Australia and Opera Queensland. Local Mexican Dance Group of QLD, and Son de Mexico, from Melbourne we will also be our guest dancers.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Victor Valdes is a walking encyclopedia of Latin music, both past and present. As one of Australia’s foremost world music artists, this virtuoso Mexican harpist, singer and dancer has redefined the harp as both a solo and lead instrument. His powerful voice, coupled with a passion for storytelling, guides audiences through a rich emotional landscape of Mexican music.

Awarded the title of distinguished Mexican by the Mexican government and the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, this honour was presented by the Embassy of Mexico in Australia in recognition of his successful career and his role in promoting Mexican music and Hispanic culture both in Australia and globally.

Valdes has shared the stage with a diverse array of artists, including Angus & Julia Stone, Aloe Blacc, Los Lobos, Mirusia, Jimmy Barnes and The Wiggles. He has graced folk, world music, rock and blues festival stages throughout Australia.

As a solo harpist, he has performed concerts in more than 25 countries across four continents. In Australia, he showcases authentic Mariachi music with a multicultural Mariachi band formed with musicians from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, whom he has personally mentored in both learning and performing the genre of regional Mexican music.
