JOIN US FOR THE FINAL FRAME: DENDY POWERHOUSE CLOSES

Two people sit in outdoor chairs under string lights at the Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema, smiling and holding drinks. A popcorn bucket rests between them. Trees and a twilight sky frame the scene at Brisbane Powerhouse, creating a cozy atmosphere.

After years of unforgettable nights under the stars, Brisbane Powerhouse will farewell Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema this week, bringing to a close one of Brisbane’s most distinctive cinematic experiences and inviting audiences to join them for the final frame.

Since opening, the riverside cinema has become a beloved destination for audiences across the city, hosting everything from cult classics and arthouse favourites to special festival screenings and live event tie-ins.

Fittingly, the final film to screen at Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema will be Stop Making Sense, Jonathan Demme’s iconic 1984 Talking Heads concert film. The remastered 4K version was one of the standout sessions during Brisbane Powerhouse’s ΩHM Festival in 2024, drawing audiences together for a shared celebration of music, film and collective experience.

Brisbane Powerhouse CEO and Artistic Director Louise Bezzina said the outdoor cinema had become a much-loved part of the venue’s cultural offering.

“It’s rare to have a space that so naturally encourages people to come together in such a relaxed and joyful way,” said Bezzina.

“Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema has done exactly that for years. While its closing marks the end of a chapter, we’re incredibly proud of what it’s brought to audiences and the way it’s helped shape so many shared memories in Brisbane.”

Audiences are warmly invited to join Brisbane Powerhouse for the final frame, celebrating the venue one last time with a film that has brought people together.

Final screenings take place this week, with the last day of trade on Sunday 31 May 2026.
