Nabilah Nordin
Domestica
Nabilah Nordin is a Singaporean-Australian artist known for her inventive, unconventional and tactile sculptures. Her practice embraces play, experimentation and the transformation of everyday objects and materials.
Nabilah Nordin’s Domestica is a monumental installation composed of over 800 salt dough sculptures and designed in response to the architecture of the Flinders Street Station ballroom. Each ‘baguette’ was carefully hand-rolled, baked and preserved by a team of collaborators. The plywood and timber base of Nabilah’s sculpture offers a fast-paced and unpredictable surface on which to play mini golf. Domestica reflects on themes of labour, repetition and craft and invites audiences to consider the beauty of seemingly mundane acts and materials.
