BRED is an artistic interrogation by some creative savages featuring a token white fella ally.

A contemporary and surreal physical theatre work armed with a tongue-in-bleak look at the history of Australian and Oceanic statements of relationship meanings, identity complexities, belief systems and the impact of superiority dysmorphia. A work which manifests the celebration of the individual and the salvaging of cultural connections.

Featuring acts across theatre, drag, music, dance, performance art, BRED leverages the freedom and accessibility of the variety format to speak truths and create a space for a new kind of closeness—something desperately absent in our upside-down pandemic world.

Fans of Brief’s signature sass and show-stopping shenanigans will delight in this joking-but-serious take on First Nations history.

Vicki Van Hout’s rendition of David Attenborough’s version of ‘What a wonderful world’ is completely brilliant. Followed by a physicalised spoken word piece on the ‘species’ is as comical as it is jarring, speaking to what we (humanity) have lost in the process of putting ourselves at the apex of life on earth, and as First nations people know, it’s a lot.
