The multi-award-winning Matrix Theatre presents a hilarious and heart-rending new production of Nikolai Gogol’s timeless classic about alienation, unrequited love and the descent into madness.

In a hard-hearted world riddled by prejudice and privilege, lowly bureaucrat and outsider, Aksentii Poprishchin, is intent on climbing the greasy pole to success. He soon discovers, however, that his greatest obstacle is not a hated rival but his own escalating madness.

Michael Futcher, one of Queensland’s most acclaimed directors, leads an exciting cast headed by Rowan Chapman (A Place to Call Home, Young Rock) and the talented design team of Josh McIntosh (Set) and Jason Glenwright (lighting).

Diary of a Madman, adapted by David Holman, is a brilliant tour de force for two actors, combining uproarious comedy, searing social commentary and tragedy, making for a thoroughly entertaining evening at the theatre.
